Wire Resistance

Resistance of a wire depends on the material, the thickness and the length. This calculator assumes direct current (DC) or low frequency alternating current (AC). For high frequencies check out the skin effect resistance calculator. Stranded wire has approximately 5% larger diameter. Ampacity (current capacity) is an approximation only and for a freestanding wire in 20°C ambient air, allowing 60°C heating of the insulator. Currently, only calculated for copper.

Material= Stranded wire
Wire Length= m
Wire Diameter= mm
Wire Area= mm2
